As a result of not getting a desired 3d look of a morphing effect. I decided to do the effect in after effects. I used a plugins to create this effect. One of them was (Trapecode Particular) The other was (Optical flares) from video-copilot. Here are different variations of the same thing

This was test 1 of an effect that i did in after effects, just in case the 3d morph doesn't work out.

This is an effect i did for one of the shots assign to me. It included a fair amount of tracking involved in after effects tracker.

I used this tutorial as a guide. Not so much to follow exactly, but to gain understanding as in how to track a phone screen in after effects.

Here's a link to the tutorial.

This was a short test to see if the background could be keyed out. And successfully it did.

These are the render shots of the geometry that i created

Since I'm the modeller of the group, i was asked to create a nice looking alien gun. Here was the ref images that i got.

These are the finished un-rendered and untextured results of the alien gun

playblast

So this is a start of a brand new project with brand new ideas!! I like the idea what we've got for my group, but we all know we can develop it a bit more. Basically, the idea what we came up with was a scene set in a classroom with students. Then suddenly a random object comes crashing through the roof and hits the floor. The student near the object investigates what had made such a violent impact. But, the mistake that he made, was getting too close! As he reaches the proximity of striking distance of this object, it morphs and latches onto the boy's wrist, injecting him with God knows what. After that, his hands begins to glow and he is now able to shoot energy beams from his hand, causing chaos and mayhem.. And so, that is how far we have gotten with the story.

My Role in this group is Modeller/effects:

At the time of Ozzi pitching this idea, the only beef i had with this whole concept was how was all of it going to be implemented?! I never had any knowledge of morphing things in 3d and so that was my biggest concern.. Me being me, I investigated in softwares that does liquid and morphing effects. I then stumbled upon a software called (Realflow) After watching a few tutorials and trying it out myself, these are the results i got. I exported it out of Realflow and imported it into maya for a play-blast. Remember now, these are only tests, and also to show what my capabilities are at my current level.. The next time i'll be doing this effect, it will be with the actual models that has been decided by my group and I.
